Resolution Honoring Mark Garvey
Resolution Honoring the Life of Mark Garvey
WHEREAS, Mark Garvey came into this world on December 31, 1950, one of six children born to Bud and Helen Garvey. He was locally educated at Assumption Grade School, Camden Catholic High School and graduated from Bellarmine University in Louisville Kentucky,and;
WHEREAS, his employment at the Family Company, Garvey Corporation, necessitated that he relocate to the Midwest, and to the great fortune of the Haley Family, he decided to become a "river rat" living on the shore of the Fox River, just upstream from Blarney Island, and;
WHEREAS, during his "occasional" visits to Blarney Island, he met his life partner, Rita Haley, and after their marriage settled with his family in Antioch Illinois until 1980, when company responsibilities dictated that he move his family back to New Jersey, and;
WHEREAS, during the ensuing years he became a recognized leader in the conveyor industry, a trusted counselor to a host of relatives, friends and business associates, an accomplished motivational speaker, a success in his recreational passions of aviation and golf, and most importantly, excelled as a husband and father to an adoring family, and;
WHEREAS, rarely missing any type of family gathering, he brought his Guitar to Antioch so often that I'm sure it qualified for frequent flyer miles, and the campfires that over the years became tradition were really just an excuse for all of us to be around this man and his folksy kind of music.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED; that we believe these forgoing tenets to be true and that as we gather here today to celebrate this unique life that we shared for oh-so-short a time, we will trust God's design and accept that Mark will trade in his Guitar for a Harp and that those family and friends that gave gone before us will once again thrill to the tunes that were so much a part of our life, and;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED; that we have all been individually enriched because he was a part of us, and that the lessons of life that he taught will remain with us until we meet again, and;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED; that our children and our children's children will always know that one day there was an "Uncle Mark" that could warm a cold winter day by just walking into the room, that could brighten a dark hour by the smile on his face and could dry a tear by the sound of the song in his heart.
This resolution offered to you on this 22nd day of May 2006.

I liked this a lot, especially the last paragraph. It almost sounds poetic.
I especially like that our childern's children will always know that one day there was an Uncle Mark.
You bet they will! We will make sure of that!
Or "Grandpa" ;)
Or Uncle Garvey :)
Hi: My name is Mark Garvey. I am fairly certain that we are related, but I won't push that at all. I was simply searching my name on Google and your site came up. the parallels are very strange. I like practical jokes, I enjoy doing goofy things with my friends and family and I even have a spud gun! How wonderful that you enjoyed this man whom you are saying such nice things about. Seeing an Eulogy with your own name on it is a little...well, odd actually, but mostly I wanted to say hello. No big thing here, just wished to be friendly with people who share a name..
