Blessed are the Peacemakers
When my sister Bridget and I were kids, we lived in NJ with our Mom, and had the pleasure of seeing Aunt Rita and Uncle Mark on a regular basis. They became like a second set of parents for us. Generally Mom and Aunt Rita were the peacemakers during my frequent squabbles with Bridget, but on one day in particular I remember Uncle Mark stepping in, in a way only he could. He came up to us and asked us what the trouble was. Bridget, in true little sister fashion, said, "Christa's being a pain in the butt!" Uncle Mark looked at me so seriously, and I thought (probably in true big sister fashion), "This is so unfair! I'm going to get in trouble and he hasn't even heard my side!" It was then that Uncle Mark asked, "So, Christa, how long have you been a hemorrhoid?"
It got a laugh then, and it still gets a laugh whenever I have the opportunity to use it on someone else.
