Always Welcoming
The most endearing quality I treasure about Mark Garvey (and his beautiful bride) was their welcoming demeanor at large events. Being new to the packaging industry in 1996, my wife and I joined the PMMI Spring meeting at LaQuinta in Palm Springs. While several couples made us feel welcomed and helped us orient ourselves into the PMMI organization, Mark invited us to the "afterhours" festivities, where we smoked cigars, drank sambucca and listened to Mark sing about a blow up doll! I knew at that moment, that I had found someone (and an organization) that clearly understood the balance needed among job, family, and friends. Later that meeting, I was "welcomed" into the game of Hi-Lo, a welcoming party that cost me about $30, much to the delight of Mark and the seasoned players! I was honored to be allowed submissions to the Garvey-Jacobson "Trilogy", a collection of the most hideous jokes ever told and safeguarded by two of the best joke-tellers I know. But make no mistake about this. Mark's was not about just jokes, golf and goofy songs. He was truly committed to his family, his employees and his friends. I know when he got to the gates of heaven, he was finally welcomed in the same manner he was so welcoming to others. I look forward to seeing him again! God bless Mark & the whole Garvey family.

John,
Whenever my parents would come home from a PMMI meeting they would have a whole bunch of stories. You somehow ended up in those stories some where. My dad always spoke very highly of you and your jokes. Thanks for being a great firend to my dad.
John:
Feel happy and proud that you gave my good buddy so many reasons to laugh and love life.
